You’ve really needed a new bed, and the day has finally arrived that you and your sleeping partner hit up the mattress store. So many choices! Pillow top, euro top, springs, no springs, the latest in memory foam — it can be bewildering. You spend some time rolling around, pretending to sleep and watch t.v or read. Some beds are fantastic and some just plain suck. But eventually the two of you pick the perfect bed for the both of you. Ah, finally a good night sleep.
Your new mattress is delivered a week later, and that evening the only thing that matters is sleeping like a baby. And you do; in fact, you both do. The next day you guys decide to put it through its paces, and so, life continues. Your nights are no longer sleepless. But as the weeks turn to months you realize something in the sex department is not quite right. Your back is not as comfortable during sex, or maybe your knees get crampy. Things are getting hit and missed that have never been hit or missed before.
At first, you wrote it off as an off day or maybe you guys are tired or sore from all the rock climbing you’ve been doing, but then it slowly dawns on you that the problems all started the day after you got that first great night’s sleep. Agggh! It’s the mattress! It is wonderful for sleeping, but super shit for sex. What now?
Never fear! Who said you had to have sex in a bed? Yes, there is some convenience to a bed, but remember: You want to have good sex. A firm surface is often best for intercourse because your bodies don’t sink in as much, so why not try the floor? Get an exercise mat that you can just unroll, maybe a blanket that you can throw down and get going. Use the bed for after-care and cuddling. Don’t forget you may also have chairs, couches, dining tables, and counter tops to have a go on, so what are you waiting for?
