When you and your loved one/s are busy and short on energy it can be really hard to connect. Breakfast for the kids, meetings all day, and folding the laundry can all equal exhaustion. All you want to do is just sit and veg. But somewhere in there you also really want to feel close, connected. So, how do you manage if you’re past wanting to put forth any effort, so you just sit and watch t.v.? Hopefully together at least!
Next time you feel like this (or right now!) hug your loved one — not too loose and not too tight. You want to hug just right. Hugging releases oxytocin, a hormone that helps people bond and connect, which is why it’s called the “feel good” hormone. When you are hugging, hug without expectation until you both relax. A sigh is always a good sign of the body slowing down and breathing. This will probably take fewer than 30 seconds, and you will most likely reestablish your connection — even if the two of you take that connection to the couch to watch t.v.
